COLUMBUS, Ohio — Fourteen central Ohio artists have been accepted into the Emerging Artist program for the 2017 Columbus Arts Festival powered by American Electric Power and produced by the Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council).
The 2017 Emerging Artists are Peter Ahn of Westerville (photography); Ricky Bowers of Worthington (photography); Christopher Brewer of Columbus (painting); Jennifer Brown of Reynoldsburg (printmaking); Luciano Carfagna of Columbus (painting); Michael Cole of Hilliard (photography); Julie Davis of Westerville (fiber); Darcie Drum of Pickerington (2D mixed media); Brittni Hall of Columbus (painting); Chris Itsell of Johnstown (sculpture); Laura Jacob of Lewis Center (2D mixed media); Chineze Okpalaoka of Pickerington (painting); Samantha Salazar of Hilliard (2D mixed media); and Jim Siemer of Columbus (painting).
“We are very proud of our Emerging Artist program,” said Tom Katzenmeyer, president and CEO of the Arts Council. “It fulfills our mission to mentor new artists. Our goal is to give them the tools and encouragement to successfully share their work in the competitive festival circuit.”
Started in 2011, the Emerging Artist program supports artists who have no or limited experience exhibiting at national festivals. In order to be eligible, artists must be residents of the Ohio counties of Franklin, Union, Delaware, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway, Fayette or Madison. The artists were selected by the Columbus Arts Festival jury panel.
In addition to receiving a lower booth fee, the artists attend two artist bootcamps hosted by the Arts Council. The sessions train the artists on best practices for showcasing at festivals, including pricing, décor, selling techniques and booth layout.
See the Emerging Artists’ work in the festival’s Artist Gallery at columbusartsfestival.org/application/artists.
Festival Hours: Friday, June 9 from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Saturday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Please note: on Friday and Saturday artist booths close at 9 p.m.)
