COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Arts Festival, powered by American Electric Power, is excited to announce an increase in the artist awards for the upcoming festival, taking place June 8-10, 2018, along the Columbus downtown riverfront.

While existing award categories will remain the same, the compensation for each award will be doubled. The categories with new award totals are:

  • Best in Show ($4,000, given to one artist)
  • Jurors’ Choice, Three-Dimensional ($2,000 each, given to three artists)
  • Jurors’ Choice, Two-Dimensional ($2,000 each, given to three artists)
  • Merit Award ($1,000 each, given to three artists)
  • Best Presentation ($1,000, given to one artist)
  • Best Emerging Artist ($1,000, given to one artist)

“Increasing our artist awards elevates us to a more competitive level when compared to other arts festivals of our caliber across the country,” said Sean Kessler, director of the Columbus Arts Festival. “We’re proud to draw such high-quality artists to our festival already, but we’re excited to raise our profile even more.”

In addition to receiving the financial compensation, the winning artists will be presented with awards created by Lawrence Tuber. Tuber is a Columbus-based artist who has worked in glass for more than 30 years and specializes in blown glass, vessels and lighting.

The increased artist awards will be supported by adjustments to the Patron Party, which is held the first night of the festival. The Patron Party previously was invitation only, but this year the event will be open to the community. Tickets to the party, June 8 at the Cultural Arts Center, are $50 per person or $75 for two.

Applications for visual artists, performing artists and food vendors are open. For deadlines and specifics regarding all applications, visit columbusartsfestival.org/apply. The deadline for visual artist applications is Jan. 12, 2018.

Festival Hours: Friday, June 8 from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Please note: on Friday and Saturday artist booths close at 9 p.m.)
