COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ten central Ohio artists have been accepted into the Emerging Artist program for the 2018 Columbus Arts Festival, produced by the Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) and powered by American Electric Power.

The 2018 Emerging Artists are Jackie Ayres of Westerville (fiber, 43018); Toni Cross of Columbus (fiber, 43209); Sydney Denlinger of Grove City (painting, 43123); Kaylyn Gouhin of Columbus (2D mixed media, 43229); Dimonde Hale of Columbus (painting, 43224); Andrea Kaiser of Columbus (jewelry, 43201); Kendall Kirchner of Worthington (painting, 43085); Yani Sheng of Dublin (painting, 43016); Ashley Snyder of Sugar Grove (digital, 43155); and Juliet Thibault of Marysville (painting, 43040).

“Our Emerging Artist program fulfills our mission to mentor new artists,” said Sean Kessler, director of the Arts Festival. “Our goal is to give them the training, resources and experience to successfully share their work in the competitive festival circuit.”

Started in 2011, the Emerging Artist program supports artists who have no or limited experience exhibiting at national festivals. In order to be eligible, artists must be a resident of one of the following Ohio counties: Franklin, Union, Delaware, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway, Fayette or Madison. The artists were selected by the Columbus Arts Festival jury panel.

In addition to receiving a lower booth fee, the artists attend two artist bootcamps hosted by the Arts Council. The sessions train them on best practices for showcasing at festivals, including pricing, booth layout and décor, and selling techniques.

See the Emerging Artists’ work in the festival’s Artist Gallery at columbusartsfestival.org/application/artists.

Festival Hours: Friday, June 8 from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Please note: on Friday and Saturday artist booths close at 9 p.m.)
