WORD is ART Stage

Anyone in the region who's a fan of spoken word knows that Columbus has a tremendously talented and thriving poetry scene.  And the Columbus Arts Festival's history of showcasing these talented performers goes back more than 30 years.

Each year, we honor Columbus' reputation as a national leader for spoken word and poetry. You won't want to miss the high impact, high energy performances from some of the city's best, including the participants in our annual Columbus Arts Festival Poetry Slam.

How to Reach Someone Who Does Not Have a Cell Phone

By Joanna Schroeder, 2012 Competition Winner

If you want us to go somewhere,
throw rocks at my window.
Shout up from downstairs
loud enough to wake the neighbors
on a summer night.

If we need to catch up,
let's do it in skywriting,
the loop and dip of time
trailing under the clouds.

Write down your best story
and tie it to the ankle
of a carrier pigeon.
Loose it to the wind.

I will meet you at the corner
of undivided and attention.
In case of emergency
send up a smoke signal.

If you want to say hello,
bake a pie and set it on the window,
tap me on the shoulder,
rub a penny down the nape of my neck.

Call me where I live.
