Columbus, Ohio – On Friday an on-site jury during the Columbus Arts Festival selected 12 notable artists to receive 11 cash awards for Best in Show, Jurors’ Choice in 3D and 2D work, a Merit Award and Best Presentation. The awards were announced this morning at 9:30 at an Artist Breakfast hosted by Motorists Insurance.
Nicario Jimenez, a 3D mixed media artist, won Best in Show with a cash prize of $3,000.
Juror’s Choice winners in the 3D category receiving $1,000 cash awards: Jewelry artist Cassandra Jackson, ceramicist Steven Olszewski and collaborating artists Shaari Horowitz and Alistair Jones in mixed media.
Juror’s Choice winners in the 2D category receiving $1,000 cash awards: Lawrence Packard, for his drawings and pastels, and mixed media artists Aaron Hequenbourg and Pui Lan Cockman.
Merit Awards of $500 each went to Amos Amit, a 2D mixed media artist, painter Kevin Eslinger and fiber artist Flora Zarate. Ceramicist John Herbon won a $500 award for Best Presentation.
“This year’s award winners are outstanding examples of the overall fantastic quality of all of the art represented at the 2010 Columbus Arts Festival,” said Leah Alters, Festival Director.
Jurors included painters Ginnie Baer and Laura Sanders and printmaker Eliana Saari.
Approximately 230 artists were selected from approximately 1,000 applicants by a panel of experts through a blind jury process. To apply, artists e-mailed digital images of their artwork and booth set-up through ZAPPlicationTM, an electronic application process. A jury of art experts reviewed the entries identified only number, and seleted the work based on merit and quality.
