Columbus Arts Festival Offers Hands On Art Activities for the Entire Family

COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Columbus Arts Festival presented by Time Warner Cable, June 3, 4 and 5 announces Hands On Arts Activities to take place during the event. Kids and parents can have fun together throwing a clay pot, sculpting paper, making party hats with recycled materials, designing and constructing wooden boats and more! All activities are for kids and adults.

Hands on activities will take place Friday, June 3-Sunday, June 5, 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m.:

Sculpt some paper. Local artist, Daniel Colvin, of Cobenick Studios will be on site to assist Festival-goers in sculpting paper flowers and tiles—and will demonstrate a paper-milling process.

Birds on Paper. Explore your artistic side with the Columbus College of Art & Design where a line on the paper is just the beginning—who knows what it might turn into.

Take a fresh look at art. Create an art apparatus with the Columbus Museum of Art. Materials will be provided for you to create an apparatus for you to experience art in a new way. When you’re finished you’ll have a tool for exploring art’s amazing

Float your boat. Learn about boat construction and design in this activity with the Columbus Santa Maria. Visit with animal friends.

Critters!  The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium will be down with fun animal activities and friends from the zoo.

Make a balloon dino hat. COSI will guide kids through the old-school favorite trick of twisting balloons to make cute little dinosaur hats for children to take home.

Have fun with clay. Artists Tara Carter and Adena Griffith will introduce you to the art of clay. Children will learn to create a clay structure on a pottery throwing wheel. Make a party hat.

Make a party hat. Join the Ohio Craft Museum in making animal-shaped party hat creations out of recycled materials.

Additional music and performing arts programming will take place on the Hand On Art Activity Stage throughout the weekend.

Also Located in the Hands On Activity Area, don’t miss the Children’s Art Gallery Saturday and Sunday where children 12 and under can purchase original artwork donated by Festival artists for $5 or less. The Gallery is open at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

After creating your very own masterpiece, go see your favorite characters from Alice in Wonderland performed for children by young actors from all over central Ohio at the Topiary Park near the Columbus Metropolitan Library. Performance times are Saturday, 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Be sure to check out the All Hands On Art area with art activities just for adults! Get your art on with several of Columbus’ independent artist collectives in a uniquely designed Art Carnival with games and creative activities to add some artsy fun to your Festival experience. All activities open to adults, Friday & Saturday, June 3 & 4, 6-10 p.m.
