Columbus Arts Festival to Hold Public Jury Process to Select 2016 Visual Artists

COLUMBUS, Ohio— The Columbus Arts Festival jury will choose the 2016 event artists at a two-day public meeting Feb. 13 and 14 at the Sheraton Hotel on Capitol Square. The Columbus Arts Festival produced by the Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) will take place June 10, 11 & 12.

Jury panelists will review nearly 1,100 artist applications from across the country to determine approximately 300 artists who will be invited to participate in this year’s event. The jury will take place in the Governor’s Ballroom from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 14.

The jurors for the 2016 Columbus Arts Festival are: Catherine Bell Smith, installation artist, coordinator of exhibitions for the steering committee of Creative Arts of Women, co-director of “Sign Your Art,” and co-creator of Columbus Open Studio and Stage; Lawrence Tuber, glass artist and glass studio manager at The Works; Janet George, interdisciplinary artist, co-curator for The Black and White Color Show, and board president for Columbus Invitational Arts, Inc.; Melinda Rosenberg, woodworker represented by Sherrie Gallery; Anne Holman, jeweler, metal smith, and co-founder of ‘The Smithery: Artist Made Goods.’

Artists will be chosen in the following categories: 2D mixed media, 3D mixed media, ceramics, digital art, drawing & pastels, fiber, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, painting, photography, printmaking & graphics, sculpture, wood, and the emerging artist program.

The event is open to the public to observe the jury process at his or her leisure. This is an excellent way for gallery owners and curators to see new art. Although the process is open to the public, the jurors will not be available for questions and the public will not provide input into selections. Festival staff may, however, be approached with questions.

Each year, artists who wish to be considered for the Festival apply through ZAPPlication™, an online application tool, by submitting four digital images of their work and one image of their booth display. A jury panel, selected by the Arts Council, conducts a blind jury process, where jurors review the artists’ images and technical statements without knowing the artists’ names or hometown. The top scores across mediums are invited to participate in the Festival.

Festival Hours:  Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11 from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
