Columbus Arts Festival to Hold Public Jury Process to Select 2013 Visual Artists

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Arts Festival jury will choose the 2013 event artists at a two-day public meeting February 9 and 10 at the Westin Columbus, 310 S. High Street. The Columbus Arts Festival presented by Time Warner Cable will take place June 7, 8 & 9 at the city’s Downtown Riverfront and Scioto Mile Park.

Jury panelists will review more than 1,000 artist applications from across the country to determine the more than 270 artists who will be invited to participate in this year’s event, produced by the Greater Columbus Arts Council. The jury will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 9 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 10.

The jurors for the 2013 Columbus Arts Festival are: Mary H. Gray, director of the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery; Sherrie Riley Hawk, owner of several successful commercial and nonprofit art galleries in Columbus; Jennifer Johnson, recently retired director of the Columbus Cultural Arts Center; Marty Kalb, an artist  and professor emeritus of fine arts at Ohio Wesleyan University; and Dawson R. Kellogg, artist and professor of art at the Columbus College of Art & Design.   To see full bios please visit www.columbusartsfestival.org.

Artists will be chosen in the following categories: 2D Mixed Media; 3D Mixed Media; Clay; Digital Art; Drawing & Pastels;  Fiber; Glass; Jewelry; Leather; Metal; Painting; Photography; Printmaking & Graphics; Sculpture; Wood; and the Emerging Artist Program.

Each year, artists who wish to be considered for the Festival apply through ZAPPlication™, an
online application tool, by submitting four digital images of their work and one image of their booth display. A jury panel, selected by the GCAC staff, conducts a blind jury process, where
jurors review the artists’ images and technical statements without knowing the artists’ names or
hometown. The top scores, allowing for a balanced show across mediums, are invited to
participate in the Festival.
